
Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Minister of Energy and Energy Industries The Honourable Stuart R Young, SC, MP
Stuart Richard Young, SC as a practicing attorney, was elected to Parliament on September 8, 2015 as the member for Port-of-Spain North/St Ann’s West Constituency. He first served as a Minister in the Ministry of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs. Since then Minister Young has served in several Ministerial capacities including Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Minister of Communications and Minister of National Security.
In 2021, he is the appointed Minister of Energy and Energy Industries in addition to his duties as Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister where he led the Government’s renegotiation of several critical contracts in the country’s hydrocarbon sector. In December 2023, he concluded the negotiation of a 30-year Exploration and Production Licence for the production and export of natural gas from the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Trinidad and Tobago. Additional, in 2024, he steered the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to acquiring another licence, granted by Venezuela for exploration and production of natural gas from the Cocuina-Manakin gas field located in Venezuelan territory and further secured an agreement for the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago (NGC) and British Petroleum, Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) to jointly operate this field.
On March 17, 2025, The Honourable Stuart R. Young, Senior Council and Member of Parliament for Port of Spain North/ St. Ann’s West, became the 8th Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
The Prime Minister is a graduate of St. Mary’s College and then the University of Nottingham, where he studied law. Later, he was admitted to the bar in Trinidad & Tobago, England and Wales, the Commonwealth of Dominica and Antigua and Barbuda.
In his legal profession he appeared as counsel in several Commissions of Enquiry.
He also acted as counsel in election petitions and various statutory and internal tribunals.
He has represented many workers in Industrial Relations matter and has embodied the title of advocate attorney throughout his practice.
