Barbados Minister of Tourism to Address Caribbean Youth on Importance of Maritime Sector

The ACMF Annual Maritime Link-Up webinar, now in its third year, will be held on Friday, September 9th, 2022 from 11am to 12:15pm AST. Themed, Caribbean Maritime Excellence: The Next Generation, the Keynote Presenter is Senator the Hon. Lisa Cummins, Barbados Minister of Tourism and International Transport.

Targeting Caribbean youth primarily, the webinar is free to all participants. Maritime professionals and educators are invited. Marc Sampson, president of the Caribbean Shipping Association will open the program, and discussion about job and scholarship opportunities will be led by Emerson Alleyne, former EVP, Shipping Association of Barbados.

ACMF partners on this year’s program are: CARICOM Education Secretariat, the University of Trinidad and Tobago, the Caribbean Shipping Association and WiMAC.

About AMCF
The ACMF is a U.S. non-profit tax-exempt organization, and is the only entity dedicated to sponsoring academic scholarships and grants for aspiring Caribbean and CARICOM seafarers. We partner with four academic institutions within the Caricom: MatPal Marine Institute, Caribbean Maritime University in Jamaica, LJM Maritime Academy in The Bahamas, and The University of Trinidad and Tobago. To date, we have funded ninety-four full tuition scholarships and grants for students from Guyana, Jamaica, Bahamas, St. Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominica, Suriname, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenada. The foundation responded to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic by donating dozens of laptops and awarding emergency grants to help students study remotely and those at risk of dropping out. This year, the ACMF launched a dedicated jobs board, ACMF-CAREX, to support aspiring maritime professionals in the Caribbean find positions in the industry.
