DESCRIPTION:In 2017\, hurricane Irma and Maria devastated several countries in the Caribbean and exposed the structural deficiencies of the logistics architecture of the region. The economic impact was catastrophic with a total estimated cost of USD92 billion. Since 1970\, the Caribbean region has been exposed to over 475 storms. \nIn global transportation systems\, ports serve as integrated logistics centres but also as the main link between human relief organizations and affected people. Ports are also among the key national assets with the capability to deliver a strong response during the aftermath of natural disasters such as hurricanes\, earthquakes\, volcanic eruptions etc. \nThe intent of this presentation is to present an overview of the role of ports in humanitarian logistics when a disaster occurs. It will introduce participants to the concepts of disaster management and humanitarian logistics.

DESCRIPTION:The Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ) invites you to register for its two-day Inventory Management online workshop on Tuesday\, September 17 and Wednesday\, September 18\, 2024 from 9:00AM to 3:00PM (EST) daily. \nThe Inventory Management workshop is facilitated and certified by the Management Institute for National Development (MIND). \nThe course will provide participants with knowledge that allows them to maintain proper inventory/stock management systems; utilise different methods of inventory taking; implement control measures as it relates to inventory management; and maintain health and safety procedures when dealing with inventory/stock items. \nThe course content includes: \n\n\n 	• Importance of inventory records\n 	• Methods of recording inventory\n 	• Inventory location systems\n 	• Storage conditions\n 	• Inventory replenishment systems\n 	• Safety procedures for inventory taking\n 	• Ethical issues in inventory management\n\nAll relevant materials\, including access to literature\, will be provided for the duration of the course. \nRegistration is US$270 per participant.
